Longthorns Haylage is made and wrapped with in two hours, this enables us to produce a quality product. In todays world of allergies, COPD Etc, haylage is the perfect alternative to hay, the process eliminates dust. We tend to make a dryer haylage than some producers, but feel for horses, this is a more suitable moisture content.
Mark wrapping the Haylage balesHe is useing a Tanco wrapper, each bale has a covering of 6 layers of plastic, ensuring that the product is securely sealed and it can begin the process of turning the hay into haylage. this process takes approx six weeks before a bale can be opened for use, we leave ours at least eight weeks to ensure proper fermentation has taken place.
Great care is taken with the bales as if any damage of the outer plastic layer takes place, the product can become spoiled and unsuitable for use.
We stand by our product and should a bale prove insuitable, if returned we replace it for you.
Midi Bale Haylage
This is a new size bale to Longthorns, we have produced this size for the multiple horse customer, to provide economy for owners. The larger round or square bales are sometimes too much haylage to use, as the product can spoil if not used within approx 5-6 days. This alternative size can provide the solution, on average there is approx 10 small bales in this size.
Meadow Hay
Longthorns hay is very soft and contains many differents grasses, it makes excellent hay, once again this has been an extremly difficult year in which to make hay,with a very poor yields. We have a limited supply
